7th Street Mural and Garden

Oakland-based muralist collective Community Rejuvenation Project partnered with People’s Grocery for its Summer 2012 project of their ongoing “Healthy Living” campaign: a massive three-sided mural, at our office headquarters on 7th and Market Street in West Oakland. Completed in July, 2012, the mural — painted by CRP artists Desi WOME, Mike Threesixty, Pancho Peskador, Release, Miss Ammo, Phil the Villain and Abakus — comprises more than 3,500 sq. feet. Check out the video above, and find pictures of our mural embedded throughout the website!

To complement our office mural, we also installed a garden at our office. Now we can have fresh Kale Salads and Chard Stir-Fry in the office any day of the week! Our vision is to build cobb benches and seating next to the garden, so we can create a place for educational tours and areas for children to play.

Thank you for all these amazing murals you’ve made. I hope that someday all walls in my city will look just like these do

Thank you, CRP and all the amazing artists in your collective, for 7th Street Mural and Garden — healthy living and eating, honoring the diversity in our communities, and transforming the blighted areas that have claimed our neighborhoods for too long. Keep on doing what you do!!
