Flavas of the Garden is a weekly gathering in the Peoples Grocery Garden where residents of the California Hotel engage in various activities that bring them closer to self-sufficiency and a healthier way of living. Whether making raw foods or learning about the impact of food injustice in communities of color, we seek to keep residents active and provide an opportunity for self-development and relationship building.
Flavas of the Garden gatherings happen every Thursdays from 3-5pm, from April through October. All residents of the California Hotel are welcome and encouraged to attend and often times local community members attend as well. Facilitators of the workshops discuss a range of topics from cooking, nutrition, healthy eating, food justice, art, trauma, the Power of Spirit, and yoga. We offer a healthy meal sourced from the garden (as much as possible) including a healthy beverage such as tea, smoothies, or cucumber water.
