People's Grocery is developing a grocery store in West Oakland to provide a community-oriented and culturally-diverse shopping experience in which local, fresh foods can be conveniently purchased at affordable prices and where healthy lifestyle choices are promoted through education programs, social events and engaging customer service.
Building off of People's Grocery's experience and knowledge of developing education programs and food enterprises in West Oakland we are developing a food retail business that will provide a unique solution for bringing healthy, high-quality foods to an increasingly diverse and changing community.

Healthy Foods For Everyone: People's Grocery will be commited to making healthy foods affordable to shoppers of all income levels through special offers for enhanced food stamp usage, customer loyalty incentives and direct producer-to-retailer distribution networks.
Local and Ethnic Foods: People's Grocery will engage in local sourcing practices to support regional producers and farmers and will strive to carry 20% local food products. Additionally, People's Grocery will offer ethnic food products from local producers.
Healthy Choices, Healthy Lifestyles: People's Grocery will offer in-store nutrition and health education through cooking demonstrations, workshops, nutrition counseling, literature, tours and events. We see education as an essential aspect of our effort to promote and improve health.
Authentic Experience: People's Grocery will offer an authentic and meanigful experiece that goes far beyond just great products to connecting with people through friendly customer service, in-store design and a sgtrong commitment to being an active citizen in our local community.
Democratic Ownership: PGM will become a worker-owned business to provide its workers with greater control over the management of the business, as well as over their income, benefits and profit sharing. This will strengthen worker accountability and promote innovation and loyalty.
