The Community Outreach and Education team develops programs that educate residents about healthy eating, nutrition and food justice, and engages youth to break down environmental, social, and economic ties to our food system.
In a community where heart diseases reigns as the number one cause of death, not a single grocery store exists, and pollution blankets the air, West Oakland residents live in an urban environment that promotes unhealthy lifestyles. Our education programs expose youth and adults to all sides of community development in West Oakland, using food as an organizing tool for connecting each youth’s life to the social, economic, and environmental issues in the community.
